"A lot of people put off fixing their cats and dogs in the fall because most female don't go into heat during that time of year," says Connie Hewitt, President of HAWA Spay/Neuter, "and come spring the females get pregnant. In an effort to avoid that consequence next spring, we are offering Spay/Neuter and rabies vaccination for only $10 from September 1st through October 31st."

"We are hoping people sign up early for this promotion so we can be sure we reserve enough surgical spaces at Humane Alliance Spay/Neuter Clinic, our partners in providing low-cost spay/neuter for county pets," remarked Penny Wallace, Executive Director. "Altering your cats and dogs not only eliminates the risk of unwanted litters, it is good for their health. Recently we had an owner come to our office in tears because her son's 7 year old male dog had not been neutered and was believed to have prostate cancer. It needed to be neutered right away and we are still not sure of the outcome. The cancer could have been prevented if the dog had been neutered at an early age," stated Wallace. "Spaying also eliminates the risk of unwanted mammary gland cancers in female cats and dogs."

"Do yourself and your pet a lifelong favor and sign your pet up now for this $10 special price while HAWA Spay/Neuter still has the funds, said Nancy Lux, Treasurer. "We earnestly hope this program will reduce the number of spring litters and the number of puppies and kittens turned into the Haywood County Animal Shelter next spring and summer."

HAWA Spay/Neuter is located at 145 Wall St., Waynesville. We are open from Noon to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday. We will begin enrolling pets August 29th. Call 452-1329 for more information and/or directions.
