11/1/2024 - Sarge’s Animal Rescue absorbs Haywood Spay/Neuter

Sarge’s Animal Rescue Foundation has acquired Haywood Spay/Neuter, forming a strategic partnership to further the mission of decreasing homeless dogs and cats in Haywood County.
“We are excited to welcome Haywood Spay/Neuter into the Sarge’s family,” said Jessie Metcalf, Sarge’s Animal Rescue executive director. “Together, we can build a community where every pet is valued, loved and has the opportunity for a happy life.”

Sarge’s will integrate Haywood Spay/Neuter services into its animal adoption program. In return, Sarge’s will lend its resources to the already well-functioning spay and neuter program, to increase the number of these pet surgeries for Haywood County.

Haywood Spay/Neuter was originally founded in 1955 as the Haywood County Humane Association, and incorporated as the Haywood Animal Welfare Association in the 1980s. Haywood Spay/Neuter has successfully facilitated sterilizing thousands of pets, reducing the number of unwanted litters.
Sarge’s Animal Rescue has been a cornerstone of animal welfare in Western North Carolina since its founding in 2005, focusing on rescue and rehoming, as well as improve animal welfare by supporting the bonds between pets and their human companions.

As part of this transition, Sarge’s Animal Rescue will continue to uphold Haywood Spay/Neuter’s existing programs, while exploring new initiatives to better serve the community.
